I’ve finished moving over every Opinion piece from the old Davison Online into the more aptly named Essays category here. Although a couple clunkers exist in the series, on the whole I’m rather proud of what I’ve written. Forgive me for tooting my own horn, but I think that at least a few of these pieces are quite good. I am especially happy with those instances where I believe I’ve communicated most effectively. That is to say if I meant to be funny upon re-reading I thought it was. If I meant to be poignant, it struck me that way even now. If I do say so myself, I’ve had some interesting things to say in the past five years. But don’t take my word for it. Check out the Essays section and judge for yourself.
I’ve also moved over the Quotes, Site Info, and Who I Am sections. Quotes will, I’m sure, pop onto the main page here from time to time as I update it with new stuff. Site Info and Who I Am are mostly useful for first-time visitors or amnesiacs.
Undoubtedly you’ve noted the return of the Davison Online logo on the main page and the embedded QuickTime “Welcome to Davison Online” audio. Also the favicon, the little custom icon in the URL line of Safari, is back. These are simply little personalizations to make the new Davison Online seems like home. I’m not finished with the tidying up, though. There’s more to come.
But it probably won’t be in the next few days. Speaking of making something more like home, tomorrow I’ll be cleaning up the master bedroom and finishing a little bit of demo work there. I’ll be pulling siding from outside the master bedroom windows. I’ll be making a trip to Lowe’s and/or Home Depot to pick up electrical stuff for some closet lights. I’ll be picking up trim for the outside of the windows.
Friday, assuming that the windows arrive, Joe and I will be embarking on Window Installation #2: The Master Bedroom. We’re hoping that this sequel is as successful or even more so than the original. Godfather II won the Oscar. Why can’t we?
Saturday, I’ll be doing a little electrical work, changing out the outlets in the bedrooms, installing a couple of closet lights, and rigging up a box for the cable TV in the master bedroom. We don’t actually use the cable TV there, but I want to keep my options open.
On Sunday, I’ll be starting the insulation and sheet rocking of the rooms. I don’t know that we’ll get finished with everything, but even a nice start would be great. And who knows? If we do get finished I can look at the taping, mudding, and texturing bit. I’ll still probably hire that out, but maybe I can hire it out for sooner rather than later. The faster we get these rooms turned around, the happier I’ll be. I’m enjoying sleeping in the family room, but the remodeling has made something of a mess of the house.
Four days straight of remodeling activities…here we go!
