I’m not going to be able to blog the game concurrent with the action (thanks, kids!), so let me just pass along my general impressions. First, neither of these teams will beat Germany. Second, I think today’s result, 2-0 to Ecuador, probably moves them into the second round. I don’t mean to write off the Costa Ricans after one game, but I think I will anyway. Sorry, Ticos. Just don’t think you’re going to beat either of these guys.
Third observation: Ecuador has significantly better skill individually than Poland. Already my pick of Germany and Poland to advance looks nutty. Wow, that only took two games. One, really, if you exclude this morning’s German victory. Nothing new there.
Fourth: Poland’s coach looks like the Muppet’s Sam the Eagle.
