Some critics of transgender athletes claim they have an unfair advantage in sports, but that’s not what the research shows.
I’m rarely this direct in my condemnations because I prefer to give authors or speakers the benefit of the doubt. I want to be as generous as possible in my interpretations.
That is not possible here: The idea that transgender women (males) do not have advantages in athletics is false. To say otherwise is a lie.
While research is limited and ongoing, a 2017 review in the peer-reviewed journal Sports Medicine found “no direct or consistent research” showing trans people have an athletic advantage.
Research is not limited. Even if we didn’t believe our own eyes—I’ve coached youth sports, both boys and girls—we could turn to something like Boys vs. Women and see how high school boys compare to female Olympic athletes. It’s not close.
CNN is, once again, making fools of themselves.
