The Tesla Model Y Takes Top Spot in American-Made Index Yet Again – WSJ:
Cars.com released its 2024 American-Made Index which looks at parts-sourcing, the location of final assembly, and other factors to determine American-made-ness.
Tesla’s Model Y grabbed the top spot in the index for the third year in a row, but the Model 3, a top-10 finisher in 2022 and 2023, and number one in 2021, dropped to 21. Still, Tesla has had at least three vehicles in the top 10 for the third consecutive year.
Cars.com said a decrease in local parts sourcing and improvements from other auto makers were responsible for the Model 3’s slide. Tesla’s more affordable all-electric sedan sits in 21st on the 2024 American-Made list.
The 2024 top 10 in order were: Telsa Model Y, Honda Passport, Volkswagen ID.4, Tesla Model S, Honda Odyssey, Honda Ridgeline, Toyota Camry, Jeep Gladiator, Tesla Model X, and Lexus TX.
When we bought our Tesla Model 3 it was the most American-made of all cars on the market. The same was true when we bought our Model Y. It’s one of five reasons I’ve loved our Teslas. (The other reasons being safety, the environment, aspirations, and technology.)
